FOOD fanatics are in for a treat this year with many beloved food festivals in Wales returning after a hiatus thanks to the pandemic. From Cardiff to Conwy and seafood to gin, here’s some of the biggest events that all foodies need to book in their diary.

Some of them are old favourites and others are newer kids on the block but one thing’s for sure, they all bring up the best-quality food and drink by local vendors.

CARDIFF PROSECCO FESTIVAL Portland House, Cardiff, on Thursday, June 16

This prosecco festival coming to Cardiff has more than 50 types of prosecco and fizz for bubble busters to fawn over at this fizz-tastic festival. But that’s not all there is on offer – they also have a wide selection of gin available to enjoy and a Pimp My Prosecco/jazz up my Gin stand for those of you who want a bit more pizzazz. ■ For more information, see www. proseccofestival.co.uk/cardiffprosecco-festival

South Beach car park, Tenby, Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19

It’s been three years, but street food traders are back on the beach for Tenby’s Street Food Festival. With grub for everyone, they have vegans, coeliacs, vegetarian and carnivores covered. So far, the three vendors they have announced have us drooling – Korean street food specialist Canoodle Catering, The Mighty Soft Shell Crab, serving, you guessed it, soft shell crab tempura with an aromatic chilli sauce and, for those with a sweet tooth, Dutty’s scrumptious cheesecakes will tend to your needs. ■ Read more information about the festival here: www. streetfoodwarehouse.co.uk/ pembrokeshire/

CARDIFF INTERNATIONAL FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL

With a tantalising spread of farmhouse cheeses, handmade chocolates, chutneys, marmalades and more to tickle your tastebuds – complete with specialist liqueurs to quench your thirst – there’s a reason this free feastival is one of the capital’s dishy summer favourites.

THE BIG CHEESE Caerphilly, dates TBC

A free weekend-long festival with copious amounts of food to devour including a seperate cheese market, live cookery demos to soak up, a music lounge and bar area to enjoy are just some of the reasons to make your way to Caerphilly for this festival. And if that doesn’t entice you in, a festival whose name is The Big Cheese should pique your interest.

BITE

Insole Court, Llandaff, Cardiff, July – exact dates TBC.

Cardiff’s latest newcomer to the food festival scene, Bite, is a festival hoping to make a lasting impression with real food at fair prices. Set in the gardens of Insole Court in Llandaff, founder and owner of Dusty Knuckle pizza, Phill Lewis, was inspired by a foodie paradise he’d visited in Tuscany, and wanted to recreate that here in Wales. With chefs, street food vendors and producers offering just one dish each priced at £3 a pop, its intention is to be accessible to all, while still offering incredible plates of delicious food. So grab your blanket and spend the day grazing.

Think wood-fired pizzas, Welsh beefburgers, spiced tikka wraps, churros, fudge, ice cream, candyfloss and more alongside a buzzing beer garden. And with live music and comedy usually a staple of the weekend, we’re sure this year’s spectacle will match the magnificence of its past events.
