Cup final glory for Rockspur and CRC Olympic
OPEN CUP Rockspur 4 Sandfields 0 Within 11 minutes a pair of Matthew Hughes goals and a well-taken strike by Richard Jeremiah put Rockspur 3-0 up as they looked to run riot.
Hughes completed his hat-trick on 30 minutes to round off a comprehensive victory, but Sandfields must be commended for playing their part in the final as they prevented any further goals from the league champions.
GWALIA CUP CRC Olympic 2 Llangyfelach 1 Division three champions CRC Olympic completed a league and cup double by winning the Gwalia Cup at the expense of near neighbours Llangyfelach at Stafford Common, home of Garden Village FC.
CRC were dealt an early blow when Callum Fuge went off injured after just five minutes.
There was a frantic start to the match and CRC’S Kristian Lacey had enough time and space in the area to put them 1-0 up after just 11 minutes.
CRC had chances to double their lead but didn’t finish when well placed, but they made it 2-0 on 25 minutes when Rhys Whitelock netted from the penalty spot.
CRC were strong in defence and looking to play down the left and break lines, while Llanfyfelach were looking to play on the counter-attack due to being penned in in their own half.
Llangyefelach got back into the match on 30 minutes when Ben Scannell scored with a superblytaken free-kick from 30 yards out that flew into the far corner of the net over stranded keeper Dale Hulland.
CRC were stronger in midfield and looking to exploit the wide open spaces of the pitch.
Most of the game was being played in the Llangy half, and Llangy’s keeper saved well from Rhys Whitelock’s far-post header.
CRC started the second half by creating early chances, and there were a couple of scrambles in the Llangy penalty area.
Whitelock went close to extending
CRC’S lead with a header that bounced in front of goal.
Llangyfelach again played on the counter-attack and looked to exploit the pace of Arnold Ncube.
CRC were dominating territory, and their centre-back Jamie Dickerson was dominant throughout, reading everything, commanding and efficient on the ball.
Llangyfelach finished the stronger of the two sides but could not penetrate a well-marshalled CRC defence that was superbly led by captain Dickerson.
