I’m honoured to be compared to Michu, says Piroe

SWANS striker Joel Piroe says he is honoured to be compared to Dutch legend Ruud van Nistelrooy and Swans favourite Michu (left).

Piroe (inset, left) hit the ground running in SA1 after arriving from PSV, where he was coached by ex-manchester United star van Nistelrooy. His calmness in front of goal and decision-making has rubbed off on the 22-year-old, he feels, but he is reluctant to say he’s at the level of Michu just yet.

“When being mentioned in the same sentence (as van Nistelrooy), it’s very nice,” Piroe says.

“It’s an honour to hear yourself compared with him and I hope to be like him one day, to have as many trophies and as many clubs as he had. I learned a lot from him, like decisionmaking, when he was my coach at PSV.

“It’s something he was really good at and he just really helped with small hints. When you are on the pitch there are hundreds of options but if you narrow that down to three options, it is easier to pick the right one.

“I have a cool head, for sure. Sometimes you are just too eager to shoot directly or make a quick decision. I always try to think, know how much time you have. When you take the most time, you make the best decision.

“Sometimes there’s a moment when you have to have a snapshot or be quick but normally, you have more time than you think.

“I searched Michu up online after I heard about the comparison. He did an amazing job here and that was at Premier League level, so in that way, I wouldn’t compare myself to him. But he was very composed and had some great finishes as well.”
