Hotel stay makes Jenny so Grumpy

AS PART of her act, Jenny Eclair is used to being grumpy about – well, just about everything.

The legendary TV comedian was in Southport last weekend along with Susie Blake (Mrs Brown’s Boys, Coronation Street) and Kate Robbins (Where The Heart Is, Casualty), as they performed Return of The Grumpy Old Women – Fifty Shades of Beige at The Atkinson.

But Ms Eclair was shocked by the state of her room at the Prince of Wales Hotel, on Lord Street.

She tweeted a picture of it saying: “Welcome to your executive suite Ms Eclair – I would laugh if this didn’t make me very angry and very upset.”

The rage continued in further tweets.

She said: “Maybe crap hotels could make a feature out of being crap ‘Hey hipsters, holiday like your grandparents did, stained carpets+stench of mothball.

“Sense of ennui and despair – no extra charge – listen to the joyful screams of desperate young people while the carpet sighs with lost dreams.”

After a local resident tweeted the star to tell her: “Lots of lovely hotel rooms in Southport come back soon and we will show you”, she replied: “Bank hol weekend – booked by agency – that hotel is a disgrace – The Vincent next time.”

The hotel is currently ranked #18 of 29 Southport hotels on Tripadvisor, with an average of three stars out of five.

A total of 169 people rate it Excellent, 333 Very Good, 285 Average, 193 Poor, and 252 Terrible.

The Perrier Award-winning comedian, writer and original star of Grumpy Old Women was, however, full of praise for The Atkinson.

After initially saying she was playing in Stockport instead of Southport, she posted a photo of her meal saying: “From the ridiculous to the sublime – glorious rider c/o Southport Atkinson Theatre.”

And she urged local people to make the most of our multi-million pound cultural centre – and also the Remedy cafe nearby.

She said: “If you live near Southport, go to The Atkinson, fab art, theatre, food and Remedy bar / cafe outside where Tom morning I will eat AVACAADO.”

Return of The Grumpy Old Women – Fifty Shades of Beige was returning to The Atkinson after a sellout tour last spring.

Staff at the Prince of Wales Hotel declined to comment.
