Jilted Katy launches her second travel book
THE backpacking bride who travelled the world after being jilted and then secured a huge publishing deal is to launch her second book in Southport.
Katy Colins, 31, began to write about her travels after her fairytale £20,000 big day was called off four years ago.
Her blog, Notwedordead.com, grew in readers and saw the former Southport College student land a book deal with Carina, part of the world-famous publisher, Harper Collins.
The first book in the Lonely Hearts Travel Club series, Destination Thailand, was released in January and saw Katy, from Formby, described as the ‘Backpacking Bridget Jones’.
The second book in the light-hearted romantic comedy series, Destination India, is being released digitally and in paperback today, Thursday, June 2.
Broadhurst’s book shop in Market Street, Southport, is hosting a launch event on Saturday, June 11, from 6pm-8pm. Katy will meet fans and sign her latest books.
Julie Bentham, of Broadhurst’s, said: “We are absolutely thrilled.
“Everyone has been struck by her tale of wedding to wanderlust and we are delighted to be hosting her launch party.
“It will be a special evening and all are welcome.”
Katy’s wedding had nearly all been paid for when she was left heartbroken. She quit her job in PR and sold everything that wouldn’t fit into a large backpack.
Her travels have taken her to South East Asia, South America and Australia among other farflung places. The Lonely Hearts Travel Club series has been described as “perfect escapism”.
It tells the tale of Georgia Green, a jilted bride who heads off to explore the world – only to discover the reality of travelling is far from rosy.
Katy’s first two books are available from Broadhurst’s and other retailers.
