ABALL organised to honour the wish of a 23-year-old Southport woman who lost her battle with cancer is set to take place this summer.

Kayleigh Hayes, died just months after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013.

Kayleigh, who had attended Meols Cop high, was diagnosed just a year after launching a beauty business with a friend on Liverpool Road.

She had asked her family to host a ball to raise awareness around the disease, so others would not have to suffer the way she did.

The event, now in its third year, has already raised £11,000 for charities close to the family’s heart.

Mum Jackie said: “The chosen charities for the red carpet event are Queenscourt Hospice, and CLIC Sergant, a charity that supported Kayleigh and many other young adults with cancer.

“The first ball raised £5,000 and the second £6,000. So it has been successful so far.”

Kayleigh was treated at Queenscourt Hospice for pain management.

Jackie added: “I cannot find the words to praise Queenscourt for the care they offered Kayleigh and the family. Since Kayleigh died I volunteer at their shop, and take part in theirth Star Trekk walk. And theth ball is another way of sayingsa thank you. And the eventev also helps keep Kayleigh’sK memory alive.

“My fondest memories ar are of her beautiful smile an and her kind heart. She w was my best friend and I m miss her every day.”

This year’s event will ta take place at the floral hall on July 23. Tickets are priced at £45. The red carpet event will feature a champagne reception, three-course meal and disco until 1am.
