THESE are the finalists hoping to take the prestigious Miss Southport title at a glitzy catwalk event sponsored by local Jewellery Store Tienne, at The Atkinson Theatre in Southport on Sunday evening ( June 5).

The winner will represent Southport at the Miss England Finals, to be held at Southport Theatre & Convention Centre in Southport from July 19 to 21.

From over 200 applications, organisers selected 40 girls to go through to the final stages.

After a series of eliminations, 14 girls have made it to the end for Miss Southport and will take to the catwalk this Sunday in a selection of four different outfits.

Alongside the traditional eveningwear, the girls will walk in sportswear, partywear and an ecologically themed outfits made from recycled materials.

The Southport public can have an early preview of these “Eco” outfits as the girls will be wearing them at the Food and Drink Festival on Saturday afternoon.

Organiser Mark Jones said: “I’m really proud of these 14 girls, they have all worked so hard to reach this last stage.

“Out of the 40 girls that we selected these are the ones that have taken this fabulous opportunity and given it their all.

“They have all been through an interview day with the judges, taken part in confidence building sessions and debates about what ‘beauty’ really is, and have all been busy raising money for Variety, the Children’s Charity.

“Some of the fundraising activities included a Gala Ball at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, a Charity Lip Sync Battle as well as cake sales and sponsored events.”

Tickets for Sunday’s Catwalk and Awards Ceremony are on sale via the Miss Southport website www.misssouthport.com/tickets and the organisers are keen for people to come and see for themselves what Miss Southport is really about.

Co-organiser Liv Seed said: “People think that events like ours are all about parading in bikinis and being the best looking girl in the town.

“It frustrates me so much that people’s views and understanding of what we do are stuck in the 80s.

“We want to help people understand what our events are about and learn what we do to create young role models and ambassadors.”

Liv, a former Junior Miss Fylde Coast winner, added: “The Miss England Regional Heats inspire confidence within young girls. They help young women understand their worth and encourage them to do good within their community and further afield.

“We search for inner beauty and unique values, not for the outer appearance.”

There is also a Public Vote element to the competition and you could help choose the winner of Miss Southport by voting for your favourite at www.missengland. info/regionals/southport
