Bamber surprise package

THE conditions were good for the third Track and Field League Match at Hyndburn.

The Liverpool Pembroke Sefton duo of Kai Finch and Owen Southern excelled themselves once more, posting new heights that take them into the top reaches of their event nationally.

At Under 17 Kai went over 2.00m and Owen was equally dominant at U15 with 1.79m.

This was extremely encouraging as they prepare for the English Schools Championships.

There is always a surprise package at low key events such as this one and it came in the shape of U13 Abigael Bamber who produced a stunning 13.6 timing for 100m that propels her into the top 20 nationally.

The Mike Dandy coached-athlete is certainly one to watch.

Elsewhere at U15 Lauren Lewis continued her winning ways with a 100m in 13.0 coupled with third in the Long Jump with 4.70m.

Erin Birchall is fast improving closing on Lauren in the 100m (13.4) and edging her in the Long Jump (2nd with 4.75m).

Dependable Alice Prescott was quickest at 200m with 27.8 and with U13 Martha Simms running 200m in 30.2 and Long Jumping a splendid 4.16m the club has a clutch of young females of high quality.

For the Senior Men Jack Crook produced a significantly best 400m in 52.4 and James Loftus is rounding into shape with second placing in the 1500m (4.13.0).

Ben Harding was best in the Javelin with 41.65m.

At U17 Matt Richardson simply powered away from the rest in the 800m (2.02.6) while Adam Jones did the same at 1500m (4.26.1).

Matt Ingram’s triple jump leap of 12.53m hoisted him up the national rankings. Together with a long jump victory of 6.14m he is an ultra-reliable point scorer for the club. In the U15 800m Joe Houghton continued his massive improvement with a super-confident win of 2.08.4.

Altogether a very good day for the club.
