SANDGROUNDER Radio returns to Southport on a permanent basis this week- end.

The station was on air for an initial one-month period in the run up to Christmas 2015. However, its popularity led to many people in the town asking for a comeback.

The station will officially be back on air from 10am this Saturday ( June 11), this time on a digital platform, with a potential reach of almost two million people.

Sandgrounder Radio is the brainchild of experienced broadcaster Neil Newton and fellow media professional Andrew Hilbert.

Manger Director Andrew said: “We’re thrilled to be returning ‘for good’!

“This is about two things: bringing local radio back to Southport, and putting Southport on the map.

“We’re very proud of the town and we’ll be showcasing all it has to offer.”

The new DAB station will enable listeners from as far afield as Cheshire and North Wales to tune in. There is also a Sandgrounder Radio app available and the station is also accessible via the TuneIn app, as well as online at sandgrounderradio. co.uk

Radio legends Rob Charles and Debi Jones will be presenting shows, while Southport networking expert Sandra Gee will be back to showcase the town’s great wealth of businesses.

Sandra said: “I can’t wait to get back involved with the project and to shout about what the great businesses in the town do.

“Southport really does have so much to offer.”

Visiter editor Andrew Brown will appear on the morning show each Thursday to discuss the week’s news.

Sandgrounder will be broadcast from within Anthony James estate agents’ new home on Hoghton Street.

Andrew Hilbert added: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Mark Cunningham, a great friend to Sandgrounder Radio, for his help and support with the station.”

While the station officially launches on Saturday, there will be test transmissions from 6pm on Friday, so listeners should be able to pick up the station from then.
