Community Link Foundation
THE Hear Here project provides support services for hard of hearing people and their families across Merseyside, including lip-reading classes and inclusion activities – for example, chair based exercise sessions, computer club, movie afternoons, a specialist equipment loan service, volunteer visiting scheme, advice, advocacy and communication awareness courses for service providers.
The team helps people to deal with the dayto-day problems facing hard of hearing people by suggesting coping strategies, holding events and social activities to encourage people to develop and practice their communication skills further.
Graham Maher, leader of the project, said: “The local community benefits from the Hear Here project activities because we highlight the issues surrounding hearing loss and thus enable people to develop an understanding of these issues and their effect on individuals and family members.
“Through community activities there is the opportunity to enable the participants to pass on skills they have learnt and knowledge they have gained, to other members of the community.
‘‘The confidence gained and the increased quality of life of the direct beneficiaries enables them to live more independent, fulfilling and productive lives and to be active within their communities.”
Nugent Care is a charity that offers a diverse range of sup- port to adults and children across Liverpool and the North West.
It is a social care provider working with children, adults and community groups.
