Brothers stabbed in town pub horror

Three people have been released on bail following the incident

THE three men arrested after two brothers were stabbed in Southport have been released on police bail. Police and paramedics rushed to King Street in the town centre at around 4.15pm on Sunday after the men were attacked in The Coronation pub.

One man suffered injuries to his arm while the other had wounds on his neck and back.

Witnesses described the horror, including seeing one of the victims run out of the pub and into the Subway sandwich store on the corner of King Street and Eastbank Street.

Police said the victims were brothers, both aged in their 20s. Both men were taken to hospital.

They have since been discharged.

Spots of blood could be seen in the doorway of the store.

One drinker told the Visiter how he was left covered in blood. He said: “It was scary to say the least, it’s not often you’re in the pub and guys with machetes and a hammer come running in.

“They were dressed all in black, with their faces covered.”

King Street and Eastbank Street were cordoned off while a forensic investigat­ion took place, and a police helicopter covered the scene.

A spokespers­on for Merseyside Police confirmed a 28-year-old man from Ainsdale and a 29-year-old man from Kew were arrested on suspicion of wounding on Tuesday afternoon.

A third man was arrested later in the day. The men have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives are treating the incident as a targeted attack and continue to appeal for witnesses to call them on 0151 777 3055 or leave informatio­n anonymousl­y with Crimestopp­ers on 0800 555 111.

The Coronation pub has declined to make a comment on the incident.
