Fete’s crowning glories
Andrew Brown on the 69th annual Churchtown Village Church Fete
CROWDS of people enjoyed the 69th annual Churchtown Village Church Garden Fete. The event saw a procession head down Botanic Road in Churchown before returning to the church for the crowning of Rose Queen elect Miss Sophie Wall by Mrs Rose Rimmer.
David Link from the church said: “The Garden Fete was a big success. The weather held, and the procession was very well received with many people turning out to watch it pass by.
“It was led by the excellent Hesketh Bank Silver Band, and included eight visiting Rose Queens, Rose Bud Queens and Sunday School Queens as well as Floral Queens from Ainsdale and the Chris Wright School of Dance and Drama.
“Sophie Wall was crowned as our Rose Queen for 2016-17 by her grandmother, Mrs Rose Rimmer. Both Sophie and the retiring Rose Bud Queen, Rebecca Link, gave confident speeches in front of a packed church.
“During the afternoon there were performances by Chris Wright’s School of Dance and Drama in the church hall and Hesketh Bank Silver Band in the church.
“An excellent afternoon was had by all and the church was really busy.
“The committee would like to thank everyone who volunteered to look after a stall, steward the procession, donated raffle prizes, make teas or helped getting the church ready and tidying up afterwards.
“Also Hesketh Bank Silver Band and the Chris Wright School of Dance and Drama; ZED Photography; Bloomin’ Crafty; Checkers (Churchtown) DIY; Churchtown Carpets; Kim’s; Cockshott Peck Lewis Solicitors and Howard’s Funeral Directors who all sponsored different aspects of the event.”
