Hometown launch of singer’s first album
INDEPENDENT Southport singer-songwriter David Walker celebrated the launch of his debut double album, Madhead, with a live performance in the town.
The album is a tribute to his late girlfriend Lisa, who tragically died last August.
Madhead was Lisa’s nickname for David and this inspired him to write the album about the course of their relationship.
Speaking about the album, David said: “It’s basically a three year diary of my life with a girlfriend I had who was just hysterically funny.”
David began writing the poetry and songs for Madhead during his five year relationship with Lisa, before she tragically passed away last year.
He said: “That she never r got to hear the finished product is the sad thing really.”
However, the Southport singer-songwriter wants his debut album to celebrate the “fun side” of what he described as his tumultuous relationship, rather than focusing on the sad side of things.
The double-album showcases the different sides of David’s creative talents by combining a CD of original poetry, performed by members of Formby’s Little Theatre, with a CD of more traditional rock and pop music.
When it came to re recording the set of so songs David had written ab about Lisa, he employed th the talents of local So Southport and Formby m musicians whom he kn knew from his time perfo forming in the clubs and pu pubs of north Merseysi side.
David said: “Recordin ing the Madhead album w was a real labour of love, fo for all involved.
“This launch event in my hometown is a chance to say thanks to everyone who helped in itst creation and also a g great opportunity to p play it live for the first time to a Southport audience.”
The album launch party took place on Friday July 22, at The Metro Hotel on Portland Street in Southport.
