BIRKDALE Village’s annual summer fair returns this weekend. Easily reached by train or car, the family-friendly event will feature traditional Victorian games, as well as children’s fairground rides.

Those with special interests will have plenty to keep them occupied – for the car enthusiasts, an exhibit of classic cars; for the fashionistas, a fashion show, all accompanied by live music throughout the day.

Local businesses will be on hand to provide food and wine tasting; there will be a meat and fish barbecue, as well as many stalls with cakes and ice cream.

The nationally-known Birkdale Cheese shop will be providing cheese and wine tasting.

The great line-up of entertainment also includes a pet parade competition to enjoy, as well as singing group Voice Plus on hand to provide some jazz. Photographer Angus Matheson sad that he was particularly looking forwards to “so many smiling faces” as a result of the “hard work and effort of those involved”.

He said: “The main road will be closed off at the crossing, meaning the family-orientated event will take place in a much safer environment. “It is great to see Birkdale village reaching out beyond Southport with many visitors making the effort to come, it makes for such a friendly occ- asion.”

The fair takes place in the heart of Birkdale on Saturday, August 6.

The festivities will run from 12pm-5pm, meaning that visitors can continue their day out into the evening by trying the special menus that local bars and restaurants will have on offer.
