THE line-up for the 2016 Southport Air Show has been revealed. Organisers are pulling out all the stops to celebrate the event’s 25th anniversary.

This year the show, which ordinarily takes place across two days, will feature an additional night of amazing aircraft.

The main event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, but on Friday, September 9, the skies will be lit up with a dusk flypast and a display of aircraft illuminated with LED lights.

There will also be a firework finale on the beach to end the special evening.

Helen Ford, from Sefton Council’s tourism team, said: “We’re really excited about the Friday.

“Each year gives us a new challenge because we always want to make the event bigger and better and do something we’ve never done before, to keep it fresh. “But this just goes above and beyond – if we do say so ourselves!” Every year the show brings in thousands of people into the town to enjoy the aerial spectacle. The Red Arrows are always one of the star attractions at the show and they will be returning this year. They have been regular visitors to the air show and this year they are expected to take to the sky on Saturday, September 10.

The Red Arrows are expected to fly into Southport airspace at 3pm, but are subject to weather conditions or any operational changes.

This year’s Southport Air Show runs from Friday, September 9, to Sunday, September 11 and Visiter. co.uk will be live blogging the Saturday and Sunday.

You will also be able to follow the air show on our Snapchat story. Our username is TheVisiter.

The multi award-winning air show is expected to sell out, however advance day tickets, premier tickets and hospitality tickets are still available at southportairshow. co.uk
