What a job! I get paid to watch Bake Off

ASOUTHPORT woman has taken the biscuit – by landing a job where she will be paid to watch the Great British Bake Off.

Anastasia Duncanson, 30, says she couldn’t believe what was happening when Morrisons appointed her as a dedicated Bake Officer.

Her role will involve watching the show so as to have an idea what viewers might fancy making themselves, to help the supermarket chain meet sudden demand for ingredients.

Morrisons saw demand for glace cherries soar by 163% during last year’s series of the BBC show, which is back tomorrow (August 24).

Ms Duncanson, who has been a buyer at the chain since 2013, has already ensured the chain’s hundreds of stores are well stocked with icing sugar, yeast and other baking essentials.

She said: “‘Being chosen to watch TV and react to baking trends is an absolute dream job so I am delighted to be appointed to the dedicated role of Bake Officer.

“I will be keeping a close eye on trends and managing demand to ensure we satisfy the baking needs of our eleven million customers.”

She even shared her predictions for the trends to expect this autumn, which include edible glitter, hand-painted icing artistry, and gravity-defying showstoppers.

The seventh series of the popular show begins two weeks later than last year, because of the BBC’s coverage of the Olympics.

It is probably no surprise that BBC bosses decided to delay the show, after the 2015 series drew a huge audience of 12 million.

Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry will return as judges, with Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins also returning to present the show.
