AMERSEYSIDE animal charity is asking people to tell them about their top dogs before a Bark In The Park event.

The free event, organised by Merseyside Dogs Home, will take place at Victoria Park in Southport on Sunday, September 18, celebrating all things canine.

The main ring will be full of displays, with three competition rings for you and your dog to participate in, all fun dog classes.

Waggy tail technicians will be there measuring the Wags Per Minute (WPM) of all dogs with prizes on the hour for the highest WPM.

And can your dog resist tempation alley, or how long will it take them to run the hay ball chase? Try agility with urbanK9. There will also be more than 40 trade stands selling all sorts of dog related items. The show opens at 10am. Since Merseyside Dogs Home opened in 2013, the charity has found loving new home for more than 1,700 dogs.

Staff are now looking for people to tell them about their dogs in a competition taking place in the runup to the event.

A spokesman for the charity said: “We would like to pay tribute to rescue dogs across Merseyside because we truly believe that rescue pets make great pets.

“If you have rescued a dog and would like to show the world how much you love him or her, we want to hear from you.

“We are looking for entrants into the five following categories:

Dog that has come on leaps and bounds (such as weight improvement, temperament improvement etc). Most devoted doggy. Most memorable Merseyside Dogs Home dog (must be a previous resident of MSDH). Golden Oldie (over 10 years old). Dog that has most changed a person’s life.

“To enter your dog is completely free; please send us at least one photograph and a statement no longer than 500 words to tell us why you think your dog deserves to be crowned the winner of your chosen category. You can enter your dog into as many categories as you wish.”

Nominations should be emailed to fundraising@merseysidedogs home.org or handed in at reception of Merseyside Dogs Home, Greensbridge Lane, Halewood, L35 1QH, no later than Wednesday, September 14 at 5pm.

Each category will be whittled down to a top three by the fundraising team and the winners will be chosen by the charity’s team of volunteers who dedicate their spare time to help at the dogs home.

Winners of each category will be invited to the Bark in the Park event at Southport in September, where they will receive complementary tickets to the Top Dog Tent where winners will be announced.

They will meet the main stage performers from the day and listen to exclusive talks by kennel club trainers – and plenty more. For details, call 0151 374 2001. For more details about the charity visit www.merseysidedogshome. org or Facebook: www.facebook. com/merseysidedogshome/
