‘Parking plan would scare off customers’

MORE than 100 people have registered their opposition to proposals for parking restrictions in the Manchester Road area of Southport.

Sefton Council is considering introducing a two-hour parking limit, and putting double yellow lines on a section of the road.

The proposals are linked to a scheme to improve Manchester Road’s junction with Leyland Road and Hartwood Road.

Louise Hankinson-Everatt, who owns VIP Hair Salon in Manchester Road, recently chaired a public meeting on the issue, which took place outside the Mount Pleasant pub.

She is now heading the cam- paign against the proposals.

She said that the relaxed parking arrangements were a vital feature of Manchester Road, and that any changes will divert paying customers away.

Sefton is consulting on the proposals and Louise has drawn up an independent questionaire for concerned residents and traders.

She said: “We are urging residents and local businesses alike who this may affect to come forward and complete both copies of the official Sefton council questionnaire and the one produced by ourselves.

“This can be picked up at my salon and other neighbouring businesses.

Cllr David Barton said: “Both before and after the meeting Louise and myself have been canvassing as many businesses and residents as possible.”
