Night time flying a first for this year
ASPECTACUL AR night-flying event is the new addition to this year’s Southport Air Show.
The main event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 10-11, but on Friday, September 9, the skies will be lit up with a dusk fly past and a display of aircraft illuminated with LED lights.
The Friday evening flying event is the first of its kind in the North West.
The excitement starts at 6.30pm with the P-51 Mustang, followed by the Tigers Freefall Team at 6.45pm, The Blades Aerobatic Team at 7.05pm, the RAF Typhoon at 7.30pm and The Fireflies Aerobatic Team at 7.45pm.
There will also be a fire- work finale on the beach to end the special evening.
This will be carried out by 2014 British Musical Fireworks Championship winners Sirotechnics.
Sefton Council’s Tourism Service Manager, Mark Catherall, said: “Southport Beach first welcomed the Air Show in 1991 and many generations of visitors and residents have been enjoying this amazing show ever since.
“Over the years we have been treated to some spectacular displays. including the Chinook, Spitfires, Lynx, Mustang, Red Arrows, and of course the historic Vulcan.
“Traditionally, the event has taken place over a Saturday and Sunday in September, with two full days of air displays and numerous ground attractions.
“But, for 2016, the team wanted to give visitors something special to mark the occasion and have been working hard to organise something a bit different for the anniversary.
“As a result, the night- flying programme will be amazing to watch and we are ecstatic we can bring such a new and exciting element for visitors and residents of Sefton.”
Tickets for Friday, Sep- tember 9 (including all fees) are £6.50 with children under five free.
