AFTER a momentous build-up, the 25th Southport Air Show is finally upon us!

The annual event held at Southport Beach, first took place in 1991 and attracts tens of thousands of spectators to see military and civilian aircraft, classic jets, helicopters, aerobatics by the Red Arrows and parachute displays take to the skies above Southport.

And with an extra night of action, this looks to be the best one yet.

This year, Friday will include a special dusk flypast and a firework display.

The Southport Air Show is the number one family day out in the North West, and it came as no surprise when the event won “People’s Choice” at the Liverpool City Region Tourism awards this year.

People young and old can feel the thrill of the Red Arrows as they perform daring and breath-taking aerobatics in the sky. The exhilarating fast jets leave you covering your ears and watching in awe.

At the start of the day you can see light aircraft land on the beach, something unique to Southport.

You can wander around the Air Show Village, testing your agility on climbing frames or experiencing the closest thing to flying a jet, in a flight simulator.

This great attraction brings in huge huge numbers of tourists and customers to our town’s shops, hotels, bars and restaurants – giving the local economy a huge boost.

Let’s welcome the huge influx of visitors to the town with open arms – and be proud, not just of the fantastic air show, but also of the amazing places that we have on offer for them to shop, eat, drink, play and stay.
