Six schools on shortlist for top accolades
SEFTON’S inspiring teachers, projects and stand-out schools have been named on the shortlist for the Educate Awards 2016.
The awards, in partnership with Copyrite Systems and Ricoh, is now in its fifth year and is the biggest celebration of education in the North West.
Churchtown Primary School in Southport, Bishop David Sheppard CE Primary School in Southport, Formby High School in Formby, St Michael’s CE High School in Crosby, Valewood Primary School in Crosby and Netherton Moss Primary School in Bootle have all been shortlisted.
Staged at Liverpool Cathedral, it is the one night of the year where the excellence of schools in the Liverpool City Region, Cheshire and Lancashire is celebrated and rewarded in a unique fashion, bringing together inspiring leaders and support staff to showcase the brilliance within the region’s education sector.
Hundreds of entries were sent in across the 21 award categories, breaking previous records. Categories include the WOW Recognition Award, Outstanding Sport and Teacher of the Year.
Churchtown Primary School is up for the Outstanding Teaching of Life Skills Award.
St Michael’s CE High School is shortlisted for one of the night’s most prestigious awards, Most Inspirational Secondary School.
Bishop David Sheppard CE Primary School is up for two awards – the Community Partnership Award and Innovative and Creative Literacy Award.
Meanwhile, in the running for the Teacher of the Year accolade is Valewood Primary School’s Miss Chris Eglin, Sefton’s only teacher shortlisted.
Netherton Moss Primary School is one of three primary schools shortlisted for the Outstanding Arts in a Primary School Award, and is also a finalist for the Leadership Team of the Year Award.
Formby High School has been recognised for its arts programme in the Outstanding Arts in a Secondary School Award.
This difficult task of shortlisting the entries fell upon judges including Chris Walker, regional managing editor of Trinity Mirror North West and North Wales; Henry Platten, founder of the multi eCadet Scheme; Radio City breakfast host Leanne Campbell and Olympian and managing director of Raise The Bar, Steve Smith.
The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony on Friday, November 18, at Liverpool Cathedral.
Educate Awards founder Kim O’Brien said: “The dedication, hard work and impact that Sefton teachers, support staff and school communities have is truly humbling and it was fantastic to see so many schools from across Sefton enter and put their projects forward.
