Sign up for Victoria-thon

VICTORIA Leisure on The Promenade in Southport is hosting its second triathlon event this year to raise money for North West Cancer Research.

Last year their ‘Swimathon’ event raised £5,000 for the charity and they’re hoping to raise even more this year by including the gym and fitness classes.

The Victoria-thon will involve participants swimming the length of the English Channel in the gym’s adult pool and travelling the distance of John O’Groats to Lands Ends (approximately 603 miles) on the treadmills, bikes and rowers by combining everyone’s efforts together.

They will also be holding a twohour zumbathon on Saturday, November 12, from 9am-11am, and a spinathon on Sunday, November 13, from 9.15am-11.15am.

Victoria Leisure’s managing direc- tor Wally Birch, said: “We thought we’d expand the event this year because it was so successful last year.”

In last year’s one-day event, 77 gym members aimed to swim 22 miles but manged to reach a total of 85 miles – which is the equivalent to swimming the Channel almost four times.

This year, the event will take place over two days with members and nonmembers welcome to join in with one or all of the events for a donation fee of £20.

There will be prizes including one night dinner, bed and breakfast at the Ramada Hotel, a three-course meal for two at Auberge Restaurant and six months free membership at Victoria Leisure.

The Victoria-thon will take place on Saturday, November 12, and Sunday, November 13. To book a place, contact Victoria Leisure on 01704 541220.
