SOUTHPORT will be launched into the festive season with a lights switch-on of epic proportions.

The Visiter can now reveal that The Overtones will switch on the town’s Christmas lights. The vocal harmony group will wow crowds with songs from their new album A Good Ol’ Fashioned Christmas.

Joining the five-piece will be upcoming boyband Yes Lad. Managed by Nigel Martin-Smith, the man behind Take That, Yes Lad made it through to judges’ houses on this year’s X-Factor.

Yes Lad features Lewis Maxwell, who won the last Southport’s Got Talent competition.

Gwen Dickie – who most famously sang At the Car Wash and Wishing on a Star will add soul to the mix.

Southport Business Improvement District (BID) is again hosting the festive spectacular – which will be an all-day affair, with a raft of live music and family entertainment, all hosted by Smooth Radio and their top presenters Carlos, Darren & Jo.

And there’ll be plenty for little ones: The Creation Station will provide craft activities in Town Hall Gardens and The Atkinson, and Santa, with his elves and reindeer, has even promised to visit.

BID manager Andrew Sloman said: “We are all so looking forward to this one.

“Last year’s concert was fantastic, there was a huge crowd, enjoying a fantastic show and there was a real festive atmosphere.

“This year, the BID has invested in even more lights, ensuring the town has a real wow factor!”

The Christmas light switch on was brought back by Southport BID last year to great applause.

The Switch On kicks off a great Christmas season in the town, and BID is working with major retailers, such as Marks & Spencer and Wilkos, who will run late-night shopping events in December.

The Christmas markets will also make a comeback – and more!

Southport’s Christmas Lights Switch On will take place on Lord Street on Saturday, November 19.
