Dramatic shots come into focus for competition
TAKE a look at these stunning images from members of Southport Photographic Society. Live judging of photographs on any topic at their recent meeting produced a surprising result in more ways than one.
In the prints section of the competition, lots of really good images were just nudged out of the top places by some outstanding photographs.
In the final reckoning, the judge, Harry Emmet CPAGB, agonised over which picture to give first and second prizes to – The Mersey Sentinel, of the New Brighton Lighthouse at sunset, or the caving shot Exploring the Whiteway. Both were taken by the same photographer, Alex Anderson.
After a break for tea and a chat, judging resumed on the digital images, or, as the club calls them, DPI’s (Digital Projected Images).
With everyone from novices to the very experienced being judged anonymously in the same competition, there was a range of marks, from 13 out of 20 up to 20/20 and first prize.
This popular competition had entries ranging from natural history to motorsport.
Lots of entries scored 15, just kept out of the limited numbers of higher marks and the distinctions that go with them by some superb photographs.
The final announcement for the top prize of the DPI Championship one competition was a big surprise both to the entrant and the club as the photographer has not been a member long. Sue Critchlow beat off strong competition from some of the club’s top photographers to scoop first prize with Red Squirrel.
