First win is close - Powell

- BY EMMA SANDERS

BURSCOUGH are still looking for their first league win of the season after suffering another close defeat against Hyde United on Saturday.

The Linnets were beaten 3-2 after leading at the halfway point and had a few opportunities to take the lead again before Hyde grabbed a late winner.

David Powell’s side have struggled to get going this season and it was their fifth consecutive defeat but the manager is pleased with the progression of the team.

He hopes they can continue to build on the hard work they have put in so far but felt his team were unlucky on the weekend as things didn’t go their way.

“It was another very close game. We went behind and I was really pleased with how the lads came back and went into second half in the lead. We were optimistic,” said Powell.

“They equalised and it was very frustrating. We were reduced to ten men as one of our players needed to change his boots and the referee wouldn’t let him back on the pitch and they scored.

“Obviously we were hugely disappointed with that. I just don’t understand why he didn’t let him back on. We showed a bit of naivety in our defending too though.”

Powell believes the first victory isn’t too far off now despite another disappointing weekend and he hopes the team can produce a promising performance this Saturday.

“The lads are showing a great deal of fight and resilience at the moment. We had a great chance at the end to win it. That’s how close we are in games now.

“We need to pick the players up again. We are close to our first win of the season now.

“You make your own luck through the management of the game.

“We can’t start to feel sorry for ourselves.

“We’re hampered by injury still and two lads pulled up in training last night, which wasn’t good! We have got to go again though.”

Burscough travel to face Tadcaster for their next clash.
