THE annual Southport Charity Fireworks and Family Bonfire – incorporating a Mini Music Festival – takes place at Victoria Park in Southport this Saturday.

And the VIP lighting the bonfire this year will be four-year-old Addison Powsey, after she won a competition organised by Southport Hesketh Round Table, organisers of the event, and the Southport Visiter.

Addison, who is in reception class as St Patrick’s Primary School in Marshside and lives in Churchtown, has also won VIP Bonfire & Fireworks tickets for herself and her family, after sending us her fireworks picture.

Her proud mum Tina said: “I’m absolutely thrilled for Addison – and us too, obviously!

“I told her that she won and she was literally jumping up and down and skipped out of school! She said, ‘Mummy I can’t believe I won!’

“I think it’s wonderful that Southport Hesketh Round Table offered the competition and a chance for a family to win VIP passes; we’ve never done anything like this before.”

Round Table member Matthew Rycraft, who organised the competition, said: “When Addison came to my studio to collect her winning VIP ticket, I asked her if she knew what she was here for. She replied, ‘I drew a picture of the bonfire in the park with fireworks and it won a prize because it was really good.’”
