ASOUTHPORT hairdresser has thanked her ‘amazing’ clients and staff upon retiring after 48 years in the industry.

Sally Softley, owner of Birkdale salon Curling U Softley, officially hung up her scissors last Friday (December 2) as she enjoyed an emotional last day.

After spending time teaching hairdressing and working in other salons, Sally opened Curling U Softley 22 years ago.

The catchy name had seen the salon mentioned in books, on the radio and on TV and Sally’s larger than life personality ensured it was always incredibly popular.

Despite planning a small leaving do for her final day, featuring a buffet and drinks, Sally was blown away after her two stylists, Melanie March and Sarah Fenney kitted out the salon in full party mode and her clients inundated her with cards and gifts.

Sally said: “I’m completely overwhelmed, I’ve never seen anything like this is my life.

“The cards I’ve had, the messages I’ve received, I’m just blown away. I can’t believe it.

Sally also took the opportunity to thank her clients of the past two decades.

“I’ve said my clients are a family to me and they really are, who else is this lucky when they retire to have so many messages?

“I just want to say a big, big, thank you to everyone, all the clients, my girls, it’s amazing.”

Despite Sally’s retirement, the salon will stay open under the new name of Swirls and Pincurls, and will now be run by Melanie and Sarah.

A launch event for Swirls and Pincurls will be held in January.

Sally is now looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren, eight-year-old Elliot and two-year-old Arabella, as well as continuing her charity work during retirement.
