Parade proves a real cracker
SOUTHPORT’S annual Christmas Parade wowed the town on Sunday with around 126 festivethemed vehicles and floats lighting up the town’s streets.
Some vehicles travelled from as far as Glasgow and London to take part in the parade which set off from Southport Pleasureland. The event was organised for the second year by local man Adam Brown who puts on the parade alongside volunteers.
Adam, who started organising this year’s parade in July, said: “It was a lot bigger than I expected this year. I’m a big Christmas freak and love everything about it and when they cancelled the parade I was gutted so I decided to organise it myself.”
After touring the town streets the parade took a special visit to the Springbrook children’s home Christmas party which took place at The Scout Hut on Pinfold Lane where 500 toys were delivered to the children.
Adam said: “They loved every minute of it and loved the characters we had. We met all the children and had a chat with the parents.parents
“Everyone who takes in the parade takes part in their own time and I’d just like to say a massive thank you to everyone. When I saw all the people at Southport Pleasureland it just blew me away.”
Crowds praised the event and Adam says he hasn’t had one bad review.
Maria Savage said: “It was fantastic too see – kids were amazed and loved every minute. My son has been going to Springbrook since he was seven. Lovely home and staff are amazing.”
Caroline Grogan said: “Absolutely brilliant parade, big well done to them all.”
Lisa Winder added: “Absolutely amazing and not a charity collection person in sight. I know people travelled far and wide to do this parade and it was outstanding. My little child thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I.”
And Ann-Marie Appleton said: “I took part in this and I thought it was fantastic. All of it was down to the work of just one person so I think he did unbelievably well.”
