Last chance to name your unsung heroes

- BY ANDREW BROWN andrew.brownNW@trinitymirror.com @visandrewbrown

THIS week is your last chance to send us your nominations for this year’s Your Heroes Awards.

Do you know the person, organisation, sports team or school who goes that extra mile to make their community a better place?

Would you like to see them recognised for their efforts?

Nominating them couldn’t be easier – you can email us, or send us the form from this page.

We have once again teamed up with the ScottishPower Foundation to launch this year’s awards, to give recognition to the people who give so selflessly for others.

The Scottish Power Foundation is the official sponsor of the awards, supporting the event to be held on Wednesday, January 25, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, in Southport, when our shortlisted nominees will be invited to a night of celebration.

ScottishPower launched the foundation to reinforce its commitment to charitable work throughout Britain and to make a significant and lasting contribution to society, enhancing quality of life in communities.

We are looking for nom- inations in five categories: Person of the Year. Young person of the Year. Team of the Year. Sports person of the Year. School of the Year. It could be the man, woman, boy or girl who carried out a dramatic rescue but, equally, it could be that up-standing person who has worked tirelessly for the community.

We all know somebody: the person who runs the local club for young people; a carer, the person who has run the children’s football team for years or the person who leads the local theatre group.

They go about their lives selflessly and without asking for anything in return. Then there are our schools, schools where so many wonderful things are done on behalf of our children.

Why not do something to get them the recognition they deserve?

Scottish Power Foundation chairman Mike Thornton said: “The Your Heroes Awards provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the often unrecognised work going on within our communities and we welcome nominations for individuals and groups who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.”

Visiter editor Andrew Brown said: “Our newspapers and our Visiter website are all about celebrating the great people who live in our communities, and shining a light on the amazing things that these often unsung heroes do.

“It’s time to say a big thank you to all those who go above and beyond to help others – and we need your help to do that.

“Nominating someone couldn’t be easier.

“So, if you know someone who deserves a Your Heroes award, please send your entries to us today.”
