St Jeromes crowned champs of Merseyside

- BY TIM JOHNSON

ST Jerome’s Catholic Primary School – the Formby Champions – have won the Merseyside Seven-a-side individual schools tournament.

In the final, at Rainhill HS, the Sefton school beat Corinthian 2-0 and will advance to represent Merseyside in the regional finals in 2017.

Jordan Whiffing, class five teacher and football coach at the school told Junior Sport: “Everyone involved was ecstatic and not even the cold and driv- ing rain could hold the smiles of jubilation back.

“St Jerome’s, are now the Merseyside Football Champions 2016, and will be representing Merseyside in the Northern Area Finals in March.

The entire school is waiting with great anticipation.

The boys are full of ideas for fundraising for the trip, a new kit and we have hopes of acquiring a new sponsor.

They are really embracing the whole event and have shown an incredibly positive attitude throughout the entire journey.

“Not only have they played some scintillating football, but they have lived and breathed our team ethos at all times – respect.

A big thank you to all involved in arranging both the Formby and Merseyside Tournaments as well as the MCSFA.

!They were both great occasions and we as a school could not be more proud of our young footballing ambassadors.”
