Burglars steal charity cash from nursey
CALLOUS thieves stole £500 collected for Children in Need from a children’s day nursery. The cash had been raised by the children.
It was stolen from Lucky Lockets nursery overnight, along with a number of electronic devices, on Thursday, December 15 after thieves kicked through the front door and broke into the manager’s office.
Deputy manager Michelle Green discovered the break-in when she arrived to open the nursery the next morning.
She said: “The door had been kicked in at the bottom and they came straight up the stairs to the office.
“We originally thought they had only taken the box where we were keeping the Children in Need money and a laptop but once the police arrived we noticed they had taken a bag with two mini iPads and two cameras in it.”
Louise Graham, who opened the nursery 12 years ago was devastated by the raid.
She said: “We are most upset about the Children in Need money because the kids worked so hard. “They were baking all week and all the parents got involved.
“It’s so terrible for them, but thankfully the children aren’t aware of what happened.”
The nursery staff and parents of children who attend are trying to raise the money through a JustGiving page, set up by one of the mums, Helen Henderson, so that the children’s efforts won’t have been for nothing.
Louise said: “Our main aim out of this is to replace the money the children worked to raise and we wouldn’t want Children in Need to go without it either.
“If anyone could donate to the JustGiving page it would mean so much to us.
“We are just a small community nursery and we don’t want the actions of a few to affect us or the work the children put in.”
