Parents warned: The clock is ticking on school admissions

-

PARENTS are being urged by Sefton Council to make sure they apply for a place at the primary school of their choice before time runs out.

Children born between September 1, 2012, and August 31, 2013, are scheduled to start school next September.

Parents need to make an application online by January 15, 2017, to ensure they can be allocated a school place on the national allocation day on April 18, 2017.

Parents are advised to list three different schools in order of preference.

Sefton Council’s Schools Regulatory Service has created an online inform- ation page and booklet to help parents who are making this critical choice.

Cabinet Member for children, young people and safeguarding, Cllr JohnJoseph Kelly, said: “There are few bigger decisions we make in the lives of our children than choosing their first school.

“We have a lot of highperforming schools in Sefton, meaning that unfortunately there will be parents who find they are disappointed not to get their first choice of school, which is why it is so important that you list more than one. Time is running out, so, if you have not applied, please do so by the deadline.”

Education support service manager at Sefton Council, Jane Clark, added: “We pride ourselves on giving parents all the information they need to make a considered choice – your child’s first school is such an important decision.

“If you have any questions that you do not feel have been answered online, our team is available to provide advice and support between now and the January 15 deadline.”
