Tough start for new boss

- BY EMMA SANDERS

IT was a busy week for Burscough who faced a tough game against Farsley Celtic just days after manager David Powell left the club.

Chairman Dave Sutton is believed to have released Powell and his managerial staff following the 1-0 defeat against Ossett Town last weekend despite informing the exmanager he would be given until the new year.

Powell’s departure made way for Simon Hardman and his staff to take over and they didn’t have the start they would have hoped for.

Burscough suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Farsley Celtic on Saturday despite playing against 10 men for the majority of the game.

Lewis Nightingale was sent off after just 17 minutes for the opponents but it was Farsley who reacted well, coming back from a goal down to secure all three points.

Burscough took an early lead after scoring within a minute of the game but Farsley drew level just six minutes after the sending off.

They dominated the first half and doubled their lead shortly before the half-time break which came as a blow for Burscough.

The Linnets were unable to breakdown their opponents in the second half and relatively few chances were created before Farsley sealed victory with a third goal in the 89th minute.

Hardman has a tough job on his hands after Burscough have struggled to make an impact on the league this season.

A number of backroom changes and first team departures in the summer meant Powell had to re-build a team from scratch and it seems Hardman will now have to take over the mantle.

Burscough’s last victory came at the beginning of the month, in an encouraging 1-0 win against Radcliffe Borough. However, they have picked up four defeats in their last five games and sit at the bottom of the table over Christmas. Their next fixture is on Boxing Day against Ossett Albion, who are just one point off the relegation zone.
