The Formby derby was always close with Casablanca finishing 42-37 ahead led by Dave Dutton 13 and Ray Oakes and Bill Thomas, both 11, with Sheila Tickle 13 leading for Formby Sports.

Zetland finished third behind Casablanca after their 48-31 win at Devonshire Club with a fine 21 from Derek Ainsworth and Harry Owen 15 with Dave Leyland and Ian Jackson, both 11, leading for the home side.

In Division Two, Quads won both matches of their double header against St Jeromes to clinch the second promotion spot behind Fishermen’s Rest.

The regular match was won comfortabl­y 42-23 with good scoring from Richard Farbon 14 and Steve McGinty and Adrian Cannell, both 11, with Terry wafer 13 leading for the Formby side.

Quads won the rearranged match by a similar score, 40-19.

Fishermen’s Rest had mixed fortunes in their double header with Formby Pavilion, winning the first 40-38 and losing the second 35-32. For the Formby side, Margaret Coppleston­e led in both matches, 15 in the first and 17 in the second.

For the champions, Steve Murphy 18 led in the first match and Dave Williams 13 in the second. Led by Dan Evans 13 and Ann Evans 12, MPs continued their fine run with a 33-30 win at Exams with Steve James 13 and Dermot Williams 11 leading for the home side.

Vikings’ match with ExPats was close throughout and finished 34-34.
