Po­lice of­fice sus­pended over drugs al­le­ga­tion at town cen­tre night­club

A MERSEY­SIDE po­lice officer has been sus­pended from the force af­ter he was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled drug at a South­port night­club.

The 33-year-old officer was ar­rested in the early hours of Fri­day De­cem­ber 30 at pop­u­lar South­port night­club Beach Bar.

Owner of Beach Bar night­club, Craig Win­der said that he called Mersey­side Po­lice af­ter the officer at­tempted to buy drugs from other cus­tomers.

“He was try­ing to buy drugs and as we op­er­ate a zero tol­er­ance pol­icy on drugs, they alerted our staff.

“Me and my se­cu­rity team then asked them to come out­side with us, and for the sec­ond time, he started flash­ing a po­lice ID badge at us.

“He was clearly in­tox­i­cated, and we sus­pected he was car­ry­ing drugs so we in­formed Sefton CCTV and Mersey­side Po­lice.”

A spokesper­son for Mersey­side Po­lice has con­firmed that the officer has been re­leased from cus­tody fol­low­ing the ar­rest at the night­club on Lord Street.

“Mersey­side Po­lice can con­firm that a 33-year-old Mersey­side po­lice officer from South­port has been re­leased from cus­tody fol­low­ing his ar­rest in Lord Street, South­port on Fri­day 30th De­cem­ber on sus­pi­cion of pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled drug.

“The officer has been re­leased pend­ing fur­ther en­quiries and has been sus­pended from his du­ties while the po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­tin­ues.”
