New golf hotel will boost town

-

THE new golf hotel planned for Southport is great news for the town.

Creating the Southport Development Framework was an undeniably difficult project for Sefton Council and consultant firm Nexus, and naturally received a huge amount of feedback.

Draft versions of the document received derision from some quarters for plans such as moving the carousel a matter of yards along the Promeande. However, one thing that was right to be considered was Southport’s status as one the country’s best and most popular golfing resorts.

A new top class hotel, similar to Formby Hall, can capitalise on that perfectly and enable the town to build on that reputation and attract more visitors.

The new facility would be situated perfectly for access to the council-run Southport Golf Links and the Hesketh Golf Club, while there are two more high class courses just ten minutes away from the proposed site.

With Royal Birkdale hosting the Open Championship this year, Southport again has the opportunity to position itself in people’s minds as one of the golfing capitals of the UK.

Like all seaside resorts, Southport faces a tough battle to keep its economy in good health in the coming years. Developments like this, which focus on the qualities that few others can offer like Southport does, are going to play a key role in that battle.

While this is just one of many projects which will be needed to help protect Southport’s future, it’s a realistic one and one which can capture the imagination of both investors and visitors alike.
