six weeks planning their ceremony in Coventry, followed by their low key reception at a local pub.

Two family members were witnesses but there were no bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Katy travelled around the world on her own, blogging about her experiences as she went – complete with pictures of her lounging on the beaches of Thailand and smiling outside the Taj Mahal.

She had no idea her tale would go viral when she asked John, also 31, to write about it last January.

The pair had been classmates at Salford University and remained friends on Facebook, although they hadn’t spoken for over a decade.

John said: “Katy was the most beautiful girl in the class when we were at university. I remember seeing her for the first time and noticing her piercing, blue eyes.

“When she started blogging about her travels, my admiration for her grew even more.

“As well as being gor- geous, she was a real inspiration.

“I never expected that our paths would ever cross again, or that I’d be lucky enough to be her husband.”

Katy said: “We’ve both been engaged before, but we’re old enough to know what we want.

“Now, we’re at the start of a new adventure. We joke that our baby will be born with a passport in hand. I can’t wait for the next chapter.”
