We won’t raise the white flag

- BY EMMA SANDERS

SKELMERSDALE suffered their fourth successive defeat when they lost 2-0 against Warrington Town on Saturday, despite encouraging progress.

Tommy Lawson’s young squad have been put through the test in recent weeks and they haven’t picked up a victory in 10 games.

The last win for the club came prior to their conversion to amateur status but the newlyformed squad are starting to demonstrate their capabilities.

Lawson was pleased with how his team performed and claimed the experience his players were getting will prove to be invaluable for the future of the club.

“There were definite improvements. These kids are gaining from the experience so much. The signs were encouraging,” said Lawson.

“We had chances [to score] and on another day we might have taken them. Warrington were a good side.

“It wasn’t as straight forward as 2-0 sounds. We did create a few chances but the main thing was that we gave them a game. We didn’t roll over.”

Skelmersdale have had some tough fixtures in 2017 and they are faced with another one on Saturday when they take on Spennymoor.

However, Lawson claims his side are embracing it and the manager insists the youngsters will give it all they have got.

“We’re enjoying the challenge – it is a massive one at the moment. These kids will really benefit from it,” said Lawson.

”They are not giving it up and that’s the encouraging part. Saturday’s game against Spennymoor will be difficult against and we know what they’re capable of.

“They are all big fixtures that we’ve had recently. It would be tough for any side in the league let alone for a team that has been assembled quickly and that’s very young.

“The kids have got no fear though and they will do their best.

“They have worked hard in training and we’re bringing in more quality for each game now.”
