Linnets look for rhythm

- BY EMMA SANDERS

BURSCOUGH continued their demonstration of inconsistency with a disappointing 4-1 defeat against Droylsden on Saturday.

The Linnets were heavily beaten after they produced a lack-lustre performance in comparison to recent weeks.

Since Keith McCann took over as manager, Burscough have enjoyed some success and they picked up an encouraging victory against Brighouse Town just over a week ago.

However, McCann alongside first team coach Simon Hardman, must have been left feeling deflated after Saturday’s defeat.

Burscough were unable to replicate the form they have shown of late and they suffered their second loss of 2017.

Club media officer and supporter Ross Chandley is slightly disappointed by the inconsistencies Burscough have shown.

However, he was encouraged by recent performances and expects them to bounce back from the defeat.

He believes the team have shown progression under McCann and Hardman and he has praised the impact of several new players in the starting XI.

“The manager has a selection headache for Saturday’s game due to inconsistent results but the performances have been much better recently,” said Chandley.

“The league is difficult and unpredictable as Burscough have beaten teams like Brighouse and Scarborough in recent weeks that are much higher up in the league.

“There’s definitely been a vast improvement under the new management and the performances have been more positive.

“It’s still a fairly new team too and only four from the starting XI before Christmas are still with the squad.

“They need to pick up a victory on Saturday to close the gap to safety but there have been signs of improvement for sure.”

The Linnets have now won two and lost two of their first four league games in the new year so they will be looking to bounce back this weekend.
