Chance to be creative at the Atkinson

-

IF you are aged 15 to 25 and you are interested or actively involved in creative hobbies, The Atkinson wants you for a programme of creative taster sessions.

The sessions will run from Saturday, February 11 - Saturday, March 5 – giving young people aged 15-25 a chance to try a variation of different creative processes from song writing and stitching, to testing your DJ skills, comic writing and rap!

Brighter Sound a producer of creative music projects and events based in Manchester and Sky Music Hub are working in partnership with The Atkinson to deliver the taster sessions for young people to try new skills or develop existing passions.

Helen Thackray, Learning Officer at The Atkinson said: “It is key that young people are encouraged to explore their creative potential and have opportunities to work with professional artists and musicians.

“The creative industries are thriving in the North West but too often young people are encouraged to put aside their passions to pursue other careers. We need to nurture the young creative talent in our area.

Taking part in creative activities is also a brilliant way to relax, make new friends and build self-confidence.

“It doesn’t matter how much talent or experience you already have, everyone is welcome to get involved and have a go.”

Brighter Sound is a charity supporting creativity and learning. iIt has a proud history of connecting young and emerging musicians to role models and professional artists; their Artistic Directors Series has hosted the likes of Imogen Heap, Beth Orton, Kendrick Lamar, Snarky Puppy, Anna Meredith, DJ Yoda and Everything Everything.

Brighter Sound is widely known for its work with young people and regularly contributes to research and strategic development on a regional and national scale.

Launched in July 2016, Sefton Council and Knowsley Council Music Hubs joined together to create a new Sefton and Knowsley Youth (SKY) Music Hub.

The new SKY Music Hub is working to develop the range and quality of music education opportunities for children and young people across the two boroughs, sharing expertise from each area, broadening the range of opportunities for children and young people and improving the support, train- ing and resources available to teachers in schools.
