Tough Trafford test for Linnets

- BY EMMA SANDERS

BURSCOUGH’S disappointing form continued on Saturday after they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Bamber Bridge.

Keith McCann‘s side have struggled to pick up form since the departure of David Powell and the club have made relatively little progress.

It has been just over a month since Powell left his post and despite two very encouraging victories against Brighouse Town and Scarborough, the club are still trailing at the bottom of the league table.

Burscough currently sit 12 points off safety and they have not picked up back-to-back wins all season.

The season has been riddled with inconsistency and so far under McCann the team have struggled to progress despite early signs of encouragement.

It is still early days though and McCann will be hoping his side can bounce back from two straight defeats when they take on Trafford in Saturday’s league showdown.

The two sides met in the opening fixture of the season but Burscough were beaten comfortably 4-0 on the road.

They will hope to get revenge on their opponents when they play host on Saturday but Trafford will go into the clash as resounding favourites.

Trafford currently sit in third place in the First Division and have been in great form, picking up nine points from their last five games.

They remain unbeaten in 17 successive matches while Burscough have picked up just 13 points in as many games.

Burscough are in desperate need of a victory and should they pull off the unexpected on Saturday, it would give them a huge boost.

The Linnets have picked up just eight points from teams in the top 10 this season but they did record a good draw against leaders Lancaster City in August.

It will take some doing for them to break Trafford’s impressive unbeaten run though.
