Wife killer Quy loses parole bid

ACONVICTED murderer who strangled his wife and cut up her body was denied parole. Mitchell Quy invited the press into his Birkdale home and appealed for mumof-two Lynsey to return after she went missing over Christmas 1998.

In reality the killer had strangled her, cut up her body and - with the help of his brother, Elliot - hid her remains around Southport.

On Tuesday Lynsey’s family were told that Quy was refused parole and not eligible to reapply for another 12 months.

Lynsey’s daughter, Robin Wilson, said: “It makes me feel a lot safer knowing he won’t be getting out and it’s a little bit of justice for my mum although nothing that ever happens will be enough justice.

“There’s not much more to say other than we are happy we can relax for a while and not constantly have it at the back of our minds.

“Thank you to everyone for your support. We are all made up. Finally a bit of good news for our family!”

Quy was jailed for life in January 2001, and Elliot was sentenced to seven years for helping to dispose of the body.

Southport MP John Pugh said: “Many people would be surprised that he is even being considered for parole at this stage.

“Parts of the dismembered body were found near my house. I remember the case vividly and frankly I am surprised that he is even being considered for parole.”

A spokesperson from the Parole Board said: “We can confirm that Mr Quy’s on tariff parole review has been considered by the Parole Board. The panel reviewing the case has not directed the release of Mr Quy nor recommended that he be transferred to open conditions.

“Under current legislation, Mr Quy will be eligible for a further review within two years. The date of the next review will be set by the Ministry of Justice. The Parole Board is unable to comment on the specifics of individual cases.”

Lynsey’s family were told last year that Quy faced a parole hearing which could lead to his being released, or relocated to an open or Category B jail.

Thousands of people backed Lynsey’s family in their fight to keep her killer behind bars and a petition calling for him to be denied parole gained more than 7,500 signatures.
