Why should it hang about?

-

I WAS walking down Halsall Road this morning and was amazed how many people seem to think it is all right to bag their dog poo, then just drop it on the ground, or indeed simply hang the bag on somebody else’s gatepost or place it on their wall. Fred McCann Southport

TIME TO DRAW A LINE

ACCORDING to the Labour Party, the NHS is suffering from “cuts” and “underfunding”.

And this is how Labour gets into power, when people believe all this nonsense.

And when they are in power they waste a fortune and bankrupt the country, just like Tony Blair and Gordon Brown did, but nothing changes.

The NHS still needs more money, because Britain has now become a nation of sickies.

A line needs to be drawn when it comes to money and people spending what they haven’t got, otherwise we will all end up with nothing.

To the so-called experts, I have a simple, old-fashioned answer to the problem, it is called “waste not, want not”.

You can’t fill a black hole, and if you try to do so you end up trillions in debt, and with no progress made. M O’Malley Southport

THE GOOD IN PEOPLE

MAY I, through your columns, express my heartfelt gratitude for the help I received in Birkdale Village on Saturday, March 4 when my car wouldn’t start.

We were in a queue waiting for the gates to open so I switched off the engine.

The cars in front eventually began to move but, oh horror, not mine.

Blind panic set in as I was aware of holding up a stream of traffic behind.

The village of all places, on a Saturday morning of all times – my worst nightmare!

A lady with a kind face peered in at me and tried to help and reassure me with suggestions as I frantically tried to will the thing to start.

Eventually some kind and cheerful workmen ( I think ) arrived from out of the blue as ministering angels and had a go.

Result! The sound of the engine was like music.

In my panic I had attempted to start my automatic car in gear.

I just want to thank all concerned for being there for me.

I would also like to thank the many patient motorists who never even hooted once.

Just when you think the world is going to hell in a handcart, you realise it’s not the case, there are lovely people out there all full of kindness and concern. Many thanks to you all.

A very grateful motorist

GIVE SCOTS A GO

I CAN fully understand why the SNP are pressing for another Scottish Independence referendum.

After all, that is the whole reason for their existence and the fact that their politicians have been democratically elected – almost to the exclusion of all others – to represent most Scottish constituencies. It could be said that the Scottish people have given the SNP a mandate to call a referendum at frequent intervals until such time that they succeed in their aim to detach themselves from the UK.

Whilst I would be sorry to see the UK break up, I am a great believer in independence and selfgovernance and do have some sympathy with that cause.

However, I cannot for the life of me understand why they would want severance from the UK – only to want to remain in the claustrophobic grip of the European Union.

Independence should be all or nothing.

Whilst they are in the UK, many
