Fund page for Riannh raises £1k in a week
AFUNDRAISING page set up for a 13-year-old who was diagnosed with cancer has raised more than a thousand pounds in a week.
Riannh Melling from Hesketh Bank was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin Lymphoma and is facing rounds of chemotherapy treatment for her illness.
After hearing about Riannh’s condition, a fundraising page was set up to help out her and her mum, Katie, with costs as she undergoes treatment.
The page was set up by family friend Sammie Roberts, who has known Katie for more than 20 years, as well as others hoping to help the family.
In less than 48 hours the crowdfunder raised nearly £1,000 and, one week on, the £1,500 target is well within reach.
Katie, who is a single mum of four, is said to be “overwhelmed” by the generosity of people donating money to help her family through this difficult time.
Sammie said: “A few of us thought that we really needed to do something.
“Katie is going to have to think about childcare and transport because Riannh is being treated at Alder Hay (in Liverpool).
“We just wanted to help because we were thinking of travel costs and funding her when she’s down there.
“Even if we could send them all on holiday that would be amazing.”
She added that she was overwhelmed to see that many of the online donations came from people who didn’t even know the family.
She said: “People just want to rally round. Katie couldn’t believe how many people have got involved.”
Messages of support were left on the fundraising page by people donating money to help Riannh and her family.
Beth Harrison-Clark commented: “Keep fighting Riannh, you’re strong and can get through this. My thoughts are with you, your mum and family.”
Anita Grady wrote: “You’re gonna be fine kiddo. Stay strong the whole village are behind you. You can beat this.”
And Cindy Ormesher posted: “My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Riannh – stay strong.”
