Man detained after police officer hit by motorbike

A POLICE officer was hit by a suspected stolen motorbike after a pursuit in Southport on Monday night.

An 18-year-old man was detained on suspicion of unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and remains in custody for questioning.

A second man fled the scene and a search is under way in Southport.

The collision happened at around 7.30pm on Hargreaves Street when a motorbike ran into a police officer and a parked car.

The motorbike and a helmet were recovered from the scene.

An investigation is under way and house to house and CCTV enquiries have been carried out.

The police officer involved in the collision suffered bruising.
