Police issue alert after house thefts

Police ask anyone who has any informatio­n on any burglaries or attempted burglaries to call the nonemergen­cy number 101.

Merseyside Police says there are steps homeowners can take to prevent thieves.

He said: “It is advisable to keep all keys out of sight from windows, doors and cat or dog flaps.

“Check all external doors and windows are secured and if you have a burglar alarm, putting in on at night for added security helps to protect property.

“Locking side gates also acts as a deterrent.

“Residents are reminded to ensure windows and doors are locked. Insurance companies differ in their approach to claims but most will not pay out if there is a burglary and the occupier has not secured the property.

“Please maintain vigilance and home security measures.”

Homeowners are also reminded to notify Sefton Plus if street-lights go out – as parts of streets being in darkness could give burglars an advantage.

Residents are asked to call 01704 533133 and not to ‘wait hoping someone else will report it’.
