Residents asked for WW1 exhibition help

-

SOUTHPORT residents are being invited to share their photographs and memories for an exhibition marking 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The Community Church, Ash Street, was used as a military hospital during the conflict and will soon host a memorial exhibition in commemoration.

The church is now asking for people to contribute towards the exhibition in order for it to be as informative as possible.

Anyone who may be able to help is asked to contribute photos, diaries or stories from the time – anything that may help improve the understanding of what was experienced in the town.

Geoff Grice, the church’s minister said: “As we approach the 100th anniversary of the end of that war we’re putting together an extensive interactive multi media memorial to those young men and the part the church played as a military hospital during that period. We’ve got some information but would value any help or advice you could provide to enable us to obtain more photos of the church during that time or information, news items about the young men who went, died or returned.

“Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.”

Harry Pickett, the church’s building assistant, said: “We’re trying to put together some information about life in Southport then – what it was like for the people working in the hospital and those living around the town.”

If you can help towards the exhibition, please email info@communitychurch.org. uk, call 01704 500911 or send any information or photos to the church.
