West Lancs Warriors going through the mill to chase glory

-

THE newly formed Ormskirk & West Lancs Warriors Basketball Club has scored the support of tissue makers SCA in its bid for glory in the Basketball England National League.

The Warriors has U14s and U16s teams with members selected in a development programme from the top young players across the borough of West Lancashire and further afield to include Ormskirk, Skelmersdale, Tarleton and Southport.

To help the teams get established in their first season in the national league, SCA’s Skelmersdale mill has stepped in with a £250 sponsorship to buy kit and a new promotional banner.

“SCA’s support has been a real boost,” said co-founder Gavin Dunne, a former professional basketball player who now works at the SCA mill as a member of the site security team.

“The Ormskirk and West Lancs community club offers basketball from ages six through to adult, but we wanted to create the Warriors as a development programme. The U14s have improved immensely this season, whilst the U16s are one of the strongest teams in the league and may only narrowly miss out on a play-off spot”.

SCA is a leading global hygiene and forest products company and its Skelmersdale mill on Pimbo Road produces paper tissues, including the household brand Velvet and commercial brand Tork, as well as ‘own brand’ products.
