KNOWN as one of the world’s most noted young pianists Yu Kosuge returns to Parbold Douglas Music to perform in the Arena Auditorium in the Village Hall on Saturday, April 8, at 7.45pm.

Yu Kosuge was born in Tokyo in 1983. She joined the Tokyo University of the Arts when she was four and gave her first concert with piano and orchestra aged nine.

She has since won awards in Japan, Germany and the US and comes to Parbold via Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Norwich, and Kelso. Her next concert is Rachmanino­v’s second concerto with the Regensburg Philharmon­ic in Bavaria. GRIMETHORP­E Colliery Band will perform at Southport Theatre on April 8, 2017. Formed in 1917, during the First World War, Grimethorp­e Colliery Band is a British institutio­n which celebrates its centenary this year.

The Band have been National and Open Champions on numerous occasions, making Grimethorp­e Colliery the world’s leading Brass Band.

The bands’ successes include 16 Brass In Concert Championsh­ip titles, 11 times Yorkshire Regional Champions, two English National Championsh­ip victories, four times British Open Champions and four times National Champion Brass Band of Great Britain.

The band has been the recipient of two gold discs, as well as a BAFTA nomination for its contributi­ons to the global hit movie ‘Brassed Off’ for which Grimethorp­e Village and the Band were the focal point.

The Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, Barbican, Westminste­r Abbey, European Parliament, Sydney Opera House and more, have played host to Grimethorp­e.

With tours to Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and concerts and festival appearance­s throughout Europe, the band’s performanc­e reputation remains unsurpasse­d. In addition to continuing to delight audiences across the globe, Grimethorp­e also continues to invest in and support its local community in Grimethorp­e, Barnsley and South Yorkshire, particular­ly through its youth music initiative­s and community performanc­es, both locally and on a national scale.

Grimethorp­e Colliery Band thrive on giving enjoyment to audiences around the world, and the band is looking forward to be back to Southport in 2017.

They have received accolades from around the world including: Sir Harrison Birtwistle, who said: “The brass bands of this country are unique, and the Grimethorp­e Band is unique amongst them” and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies who said: “Grimethorp­e Colliery Band - the finest jewel in the world of brass bands, and a unique cultural asset.”
