Relegation all but a certainty for Linnets

- PRESCOT CABLES .......... 4 BURSCOUGH .................... 0

GOALS from two former Skelmersdale United heroes all but relegated Burscough from the Evo-Stik League on Tuesday night.

The Linnets had to win on the night, but can have no complaints as Prescot, a team that had serious reasons for winning themselves, were the better team.

The early warning signs were there for Burscough.

In the 28th minute the first goal arrived, a bouncing ball wasn’t dealt with and it was knocked behind the Burscough defence, Dominic Reid ran after it then pulled it back across the Linnets’ goal to present Almond with a chance he accepted with aplomb.

In the 44th minute Prescot got their second goal. A left-wing corner was hoisted into the goalmouth, Morrow punched the ball, but it dropped straight onto Almond’s head 12 yards out, he sent a cushioned header looping over Morrow and into the net behind him.

In the 62nd minute Prescot won a free-kick and Wright who was one of Skelmersdale’s championship squad in 2012/13 was clearly buoyed by his previous free-kick attempt. This time he tried the other side of the goal, sending a curling 25 yarder inside the near-post to make it 3-0.

When Josh Dolling was put through on 69 minutes and was then tripped by John Holmes it was a penalty and also an incident that Holmes was lucky not to get a red card for.

Up stepped Wright to send Morrow the wrong way.
